A dear reader Gabrielle recently commented on how she delights in the fact that bright colors are creeping into our wardrobe this springtime. There’s also this balancing act between wanting to wear lighter-weight clothes and staying warm on cool, windy days. This patchwork-inspired denim midi skirt with suede boots checks all those boxes.
You might be wondering how spring-like one might feel wearing tall boots. I must confess that the suede fabric of these boots does not necessarily mean that they belong to warmer (dryer) seasons. That’s because they’re waterproof: Aquatalia happens to be a favorite brand of Kate Middleton, I imagine for this reason.
Their color, however, is ideal for spring. I love how they look next to the contrasting shades of blue in my skirt. Another big plus is that they keep me warm. I took these shots in a beautiful area for walking in Santa Cruz below the state university. It was misty – hence, the “misty hair look” – but I (happily) needed pay no mind to the state of my boots.
Last but not least, they extend that blue silhouette to give me a taller, leaner appearance. And I don’t know about you, but that’s something I constantly strive to achieve.
Although I’ve gone against the Spring formula with my boot choice, this outfit evidences that I’ve come to embrace a few current trends, such as denim patchwork. Here are a few patch-like and multi-colored denim garments I spotted, for example, among attendees and models at NYFW Spring 2017.
Sporting different SHADES OF BLUE is another trend which fortunately works with my coloring (as opposed to Millenial pink!) You also might remember how well Liliya’s fabulous all-blue outfit suited her in THIS POST.
I decided to break up the blue with a white cardi. I needed something to cover my arms this cool morning on the central California coast, and white gives it a lighter feeling. It also gives me the perfect excuse to bring my new favorite (light-colored) sunglasses into the fold. I actually needed them for the hazy glare.
I hope you liked this outfit. I’d love to hear your thoughts about how well you think these tall boots work.
