Denim on denim – sometimes on more denim! – is a recent fashionista craze. In my opinion, the “Canadian tux” does have its charms. Here’s my latest double denim outfit.
What I will not do, mind you, is wear the popular oversized denim jacket. Sure, it looks fabulous on Kendall Jenner. But this long sleeveless top hitting my thighs and hiding my waist is challenge enough for this pear-shaped girl. Thank goodness that it’s white (giving the illusion of greater volume in my upper body)!
If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know that my wardrobe is beginning to lighten up. Sure, I love black. But white and vivid colors brighten my spirits, especially when I’m spending time in (rainy) Seattle. And when I’m in California getting sun-kissed, they’re even lovelier.
I also love how crisp white breaks up the denim. I chose two pieces of lighter denim. Another flattering combination to minimize my bottom half would be a light denim jacket with dark denim jeans. (I recommend doing the reverse if you want to look slimmer up top than below the belt.)
The smooth texture of the blouse with semi-transparent stripes also add nice textural contrast with the rough denim. My bag of choice for this outfit is a waxed leather clutch with sequins and studs – pretty, but with a sort of gritty vibe.
They also happen to match my now second-favorite sunglasses. (My new faves are in THIS POST.) While we’re on the topic of accessories, this white watch is something I bring with me whenever I travel. It is self-winding, unlike a fancier watch I own. And now that white has become the new black for me, I can wear it with most of my outfits.
Last but not least, I am debuting my new white-ish shoes for you. (The lighting of my shots seems to show them even darker than they are in person.) I have coveted white footwear and achingly wanted some since the time I wrote THIS POST. In the store they appeared stark white. But I do embrace all shades of white.
I guess the white mesh stripe on my denim jacket is the frosting on the cupcake. To be honest, I have struggled to find ways of wearing it in a flattering way until now. 😉
What do you think of layering on the denim – are you “for” or “against”?
XO, Janea
