There’s nothing like a black dress for work. This one is a prime example, albeit with a slight twist. And I have a few reasons here why you might want at least two not-so-short black dresses. Or three!
It’s so easy!
The not-so-little black dress is a must-have piece for work, in my opinion. I have worn some of mine to threads, because they tick so many boxes. First of all, they are effortless. You can wear one for a chic all-black look. Or you can combine it with a white blazer for a classic black and white combination.
Of course, if you want to be a bit more dramatic, you can always add a bright accessory as Liliya did HERE. (The example is not exactly a work outfit, but you get the idea.)
Black is elegant and professional
Another reason that a black dress is so perfect for work is that they tend to look more formal. Even if your dress has a twist – like this asymmetrical hem – black gives it a polished, professional vibe.
And of course, it’s flattering
Another great attribute of a black work dress is that it is slimming. It’s a lot like a man’s suit. I mean, have you noticed how a suit can make a guy look so much fitter and slimmer? So, on those days after you’ve indulged a bit more than usual on desserts, it’s a perfect go-to option.
I recently discovered that I had totally worn out my favorite black work dresses. It was while searching for a new one that I found this lovely Theory midi. The neckline seemed a little low for work. But then it dawned on me that I could wear the dress over a tee in summer or a button-down in cooler weather.
Then for date night, I simply pair it with pretty, eye-catching accessories.
I’ve previously blogged about wanting to brighten up my closet with lighter/brighter clothes. In fact, on my very recent holiday to Spain and Italy, I made that my mission. (Check back for more on that!) Still, there’s nothing like the not-so-little black dress for work!
