Are you part of the pant suit revival? This is one of my favorite work outfits: a grey suit with a few feminizing touches.
Pant suits have been very much on trend since the last New York Fashion Week. With the U.S. presidential elections and potential of a female president here, the pant suit has also made a feminist/POLITICAL statement as of late.
I have to admit that when I wear a suit, I get this feeling of being a little more professional, polished, and powerful. And studies have shown that the way we dress actually affects our job performance. So, why not wear whatever gives you a little more oomph?
I admired many of the suits I saw during NYFW. What fashionista wouldn’t adore a floral-on-quasi-gingham print (below)? I also love the very on-point cropped pant suit. In my pear-shaped case, however, a full-length pant is generally more flattering.
When you work in a courthouse, as I occasionally do, a simple grey pant suit is perfect. That is, especially since I am trying to get away from wearing mostly black to work.
There is a trick, however, to keeping a grey suit from getting boring. My first line of defense in preventing any association with the B word, is this fiery red silk blouse with a pussy bow.
It makes for comfortable walking around at lunchtime on a warm, sunny day in California. And it nicely transitions the look from work-appropriate to something for date night with Mark.
Another important element of the work outfit? These subtle accessories: my black Furla tote, oversized Prada sunnies, and a pair of large hoop earrings. The Flying Lizard hoops, by the way, are locally made in Santa Cruz. I love their somewhat large size, and yet, they aren’t heavy.
One of my favorite aspects of this outfit is the mix of masculine and feminine elements. Of course, being able to use something from my closet archives also rates pretty highly in my book. All it took was a little styling to keep the look current.
I hope you like this work #OOTD. Do you wear pant suits, and if so, what are some of your styling tips for keeping them interesting?
I wore: Milly silk blouse / Ann Klein suit / Joan and David peep-toe pumps / Flying Lizard earrings / Tissot watch / Furla bag / Balenciaga sunglasses

Love the look, you’re beautiful! This is such a great formal outfit, for work and not only. Love how there are a couple of touches that make it super feminine (like the roses on the jacket and the top as well).
