Work Outfit with Primrose Yellow and Ballet Slipper Pink

Yellow with ballet slipper pink

I never thought I’d do it! I, of pale features – wearing light yellow and pink! Or to be more specific, primrose yellow – a Pantone’s choice for this season – and ballet slipper pink – Pantone’s pick for this fall.

Combining yellow and pink is certainly not new. And I’m not talking about dressing up for Easter. It was a super hot combination last fall. (Remember THIS POST?) And at the time, I thought, “Sure, I could wear fuchsia (a sort of pink) with yellow accessories – near my feet!”

But I’ve learned not to dismiss an entire hue, especially not until I have tried out different shades. I believe that this shade of yellow brings out the highlights in my hair. And the pink, which I had also avoided – forever! – is a great color for shoes. Even though this pair is a low heel, which makes it so nice for work, it almost acts as a nude. That means it has a leg-lengthening effect!

I’ve mentioned that this pink is referred to as ballet slipper pink in Pantone’s listing of HOT COLORS for this coming fall in New York. Interestingly enough, there is a primrose pink chosen for London. I don’t know about you, but I can barely distinguish between the two. Let’s just say that this light pink is on fire!

And speaking of pink, I’m wearing the beautiful tote Julia found for me in Italy, which is a slightly different shade of pink. Since the handle is a darker, metallic pink, it seems to blend well with the shade of my shoes.

For the color closest to my face, I chose a very safe white. In fact, it makes this very similar to a combination I wore for play in THIS POST. When I’m going with white, one of my favorite work pieces is a crisp cotton button-down. It’s not only a staple. But I love its clean and sophisticated vibe. The cut outs on the sleeve make it extra special.

I really love this outfit for its colors. But I also should mention that the middle pleats of the skirt have this great slimming effect, as do the pointy toes of these slingbacks. What do you think of ballet slipper – or primrose – pink?
